Alameda County considering recycling proposal

Alameda County's Waste Management Authority will discuss a new law at its Thursday meeting that would fine people up to a $1,000 if they throw recyclable items like cans, bottle and food scraps into the trash

Supporters say the measure could take 700,000 tons of recyclables out of landfills. Opponents like the cities of Dublin, Fremont, Hayward and Livermore worry that the new plan will cost them, rate payers and commercial haulers more money.
