Man killed in I-580 crash identified

LIVERMORE, Calif.

The coroner's office identified the victim as Brandon Tucker, of Riverbank.

Tucker was driving east on I-580 shortly before 2:30 a.m. in a white 2006 Chevy Silverado pickup truck when his car drifted to the right for unknown reasons, California Highway Patrol officer Steve Creel said.

His car hit a concrete support pillar under the First Street overpass, Creel said. The front end of the truck was badly damage in the crash.

Tucker was trapped in the vehicle, and rescue crews had to extricate him from the truck, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said Wednesday.

Creel said Tucker was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, but that his airbags did deploy.

He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 3 a.m.
