Two arrested over counterfeit money in San Mateo

SAN MATEO, Calif.

Officers responded to a report of a fraud in progress at the discount store located in the Bridgepointe Shopping Center at about 2 p.m., according to the San Mateo Police Department.

Leticia Haynes, 32, of San Pablo, was allegedly caught at the register trying to purchase items with counterfeit $50 and $100 bills, police said.

Haynes was taken into custody along with Danielle Mark, 32, of San Francisco, who was allegedly Haynes' driver, police said. More counterfeit bills were seized from the suspects.

Police detectives and U.S. Secret Service agents went to a home connected to one of the suspects and found equipment used to manufacture counterfeit money, police said.

The women were booked into San Mateo County Jail for passing counterfeit notes, burglary and conspiracy.
