Californians are bracing for big budget cuts on Thursday. That's the day Governor Jerry Brown will announce his finance team's forecast for revenue during the next six months.

For the first time, if the state falls short of projected revenue, it would trigger automatic cuts. If revenues are $1 billion short, universities, social services and public safety programs will be deeply cut.

If the state falls $2 billion short, the cuts will be so deep that public schools might have to shorten the school year by as many as seven days.
