A broken water main that caused flood damage to a business in downtown Walnut Creek was repaired Tuesday night, an East Bay Municipal Utility District spokeswoman said today.

The broken 6-inch valve was reported shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday near the corner of South Main Street and Olympic Boulevard, utility spokeswoman Andrea Pook said.

Streets were closed in the area for more than 12 hours until the pipe was repaired and crews cleared the scene at about 9 p.m., Pook said.

Three businesses were without water service Tuesday because of the break, which caused water damage to a Crate & Barrel store, Pook said.

EBMUD risk management teams responded to assist the affected businesses, she said.
