Dog becomes honorary member of SFPD

SAN FRANCISCO "Mac," a 3-year-old English springer spaniel that came to the department from England in July 2010, has played a key role in helping police find and seize cash and drugs in the various cases, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

Since 2010, Mac has assisted in the seizure of more than $3.75 million in cash from drug trafficking and more than 500 pounds of illegal controlled substances, such as cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin, Fong said.

Suhr presented Mac with a department star at a ceremony at police headquarters at the San Francisco Hall of Justice.

The chief will also acknowledge the work of the men and women of the Police Department's investigations bureau for its work on the cases.
