Nesting bald eagles first in Santa Cruz Co. since 60s

WATSONVILLE, Calif.

Enthusiastic birders have been tracking the pair in recent days in Watsonville. Several people have spotted them building a large nest in a eucalyptus tree near Pinto Lake County Park. On Thursday, the eagles were seen soaring above the lake.

Bald eagles all but disappeared from California in the 1960s due to the effects of the pesticide DDT.
