Oakland fire investigators still don't know what caused this morning's fire in an apartment building's carport near Lake Merritt.

A call came in about the fire at 4:07 a.m. that three carports on 276 Adams Street were on fire. Residents were evacuated and nobody was hurt, but six vehicles were damaged. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to put it out.

The Red Cross is assisting some residents whose apartments were damaged.
