Hundreds turn out for Emeryville job fair

California's unemployment rate increased last month, but experts say it's because more people entered the job market due to better prospects.

Hundreds of those looking for work attended Tuesday's HIREvent in Emeryville.

About a dozen companies were there to fill some 400 open positions. They include software engineers, technicians, auditors and even tennis instructors. Attendees were also able to get their resumes critiqued.

"They gave me a lot of pointers of what I should and should not put on my resume," job seeker Elaine Fischer said. "They would pick out different words to distinguish what they are looking for. They want your resume to match the job that you are applying for."
