Varun Mahadevan is one of 10 finalists who will compete at the National Geographic Bee Thursday in Washington DC.
The 7th grader at Prince of Peace Christian School in Fremont passed Tuesday's preliminary round to move on to Thursday's finals.
The winner will receive $25,000 and an expedition to the Galapagos Islands.
