A man who died after being struck by a car while crossing a street in San Jose on Sunday night has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office as 63-year-old Trinidad Cruz.

The collision occurred on Jackson Avenue, south of Alum Rock Avenue in East San Jose. Cruz, a San Jose resident, was transported to Regional Medical Center of San Jose, where he died shortly after 9 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

Police said Cruz had been crossing the street when a gray 1991 Toyota Camry hit him. The driver of the Camry, a 49-year-old man, stopped at the scene and cooperated with police.

Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the collision, police said.
