SAN JOSE, Calif.

Wofford, 54, was traveling within the speed limit in the No. 2 lane on northbound Highway 87, just south of West Taylor Street, when he lost control of his white Nissan truck, a California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer DJ Sarabia said.

The truck darted to the right and hit the guardrail before ricocheting to the center divider and overturning, Sarabia said.

The crash was reported at 1:49 p.m. Wofford was wearing his seatbelt and driving alone at the time of the crash, Sarabia said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Sarabia said. No other vehicles were involved.

There was no indication that Wofford was under influence of alcohol, Sarabia said
