President Obama sets off after Bay Area fundraisers

OAKLAND, Calif.

The president departed from San Francisco International Airport at about 10:20 a.m. on Air Force One.

Obama arrived at SFO on Sunday evening after a visit to Aurora, Colo., where he met with the families of those killed in the massacre at the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight" early Friday.

He left the Bay Area Monday morning for a few hours to attend a Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno, Nev., before returning to Oakland on Monday afternoon.

Obama stopped by the Scottish Rite Center near Lake Merritt then appeared at a private fundraiser in Piedmont before making remarks to supporters at the Fox Theater in Oakland Monday night.

A number of groups gathered in downtown Oakland during Obama's visit to protest federal marijuana crackdowns, war, Artic oil drilling and other issues. Police said three people were arrested.

This morning, the president is headed to Portland, Ore., for more campaign fundraising stops.
