Authorities say 59-year-old John Prew posted a car for sale on Craigslist. He received a $500 cash deposit from a couple and agreed to meet them later. The couple became suspicious and called police who investigated and determined that Prew had rented the car from Hertz.
Undercover officers, posing as buyers, contacted Prew and set up another meeting where he was arrested on a charge of theft by a false pretense.
