A moderate earthquake gave a late-night jolt to the Los Angeles area, but no damages or injuries were reported.

A preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-4.4 quake hit at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday and was centered two miles east of Yorba Linda in northern Orange County, which is about 35 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

The quick shock of a quake was felt throughout the region. A survey report says a 2.7-magnitude aftershock followed less than a minute later.

Police and fire officials in Orange County say they have received no reports of damage or injuries.
