Police are trying to find the owner of two pit bulls that mauled a 6-year-old girl in Albany's University Village neighborhood.

The child was attacked at about 8 p.m. Thursday, near a soccer field adjacent to the community garden. Soccer players rescued the girl, and briefly detained the dogs' owner, but he left with the dogs before police arrived. The little girl was treated for wounds to her head, arms and leg at Children's Hospital Oakland and released.
