Outrage after male principal spanks female students

FORT WORTH, Tex.

The girls got in trouble at a Fort Worth high school, one for cheating and the other for talking back. In both cases, the parents signed off on the corporal punishment but they didn't expect it to be carried out by the school's male vice-principal, a violation of the school's policy of allowing administrators to paddle students only of the same gender.

"Men are too big and strong to be hitting 96-pound girls," parent Anna Jorgensen said."I wasn't expecting a bruise. A swat is a swat, yes it is, and they do sting, but to bruise a child?"

Texas is one of 19 states that allows corporal punishment in schools, usually as long as a parent agrees. School officials plan to ask the board to change the same-sex spanking policy, a plan the moms plan to fight.
