The pair was walking near Lake Erie when the hound dog, named Bart, wandered away and fell through the ice. The owner's cousin put on some waders and went to comfort Bart, rubbing the dog's back to keep him calm and warm until rescuers arrived.
Getting 11-year-old Bart out wasn't easy; a rescuer fell into the ice and had to crawl to safety.
The dog is doing fine despite being waist deep in freezing water for an hour and a half.
