Oakland church leaders, residents hold anti-violence rally

OAKLAND, Calif.

Organizers of the rally say they are tired of senseless violence everywhere. They are calling for a national ban on assault weapons and high-capacity clips, and demanding that the City of Oakland make public safety a priority.

"We demand our mayor declare Oakland a state of emergency and get the mutual aid we can get from the governor's office because our city is out of control," said Bishop Robert Jackson with Acts Full Gospel Church.

Several community and religious groups joined forces for Saturday's rally including Pastors of Oakland and Soldiers Against Violence Everywhere. The latter conducts weekly peace rallies known as stand-ins near murder locations across Oakland.
