Sheriff's office finds live gator guarding pot stash

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office was conducting the check at a home in the 19000 block of Mount Jasper Drive when they discovered 34 pounds of processed marijuana in a bedroom.

A 5-foot alligator was in a nearby tank, serving as a deterrent to any possible thieves.

Police say the alligator, named "Mr. Teeth," was acquired by the suspect, 32-year-old Assif Mayar, in 1996 to commemorate the death of rapper Tupac Shakur.

Mayar was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. Mr. Teeth is now at the Oakland Zoo.
