Report of suicidal man prompted school lockdowns

VACAVILLE, Calif.

Police were alerted about the armed man in the 300 block of Shasta Drive around 10:20 a.m.

Nearby Fairmont Elementary School, at 1355 Marshall Road, and Will C. Wood High School, located at 998 Marshall Road, were placed on lockdown, Vacaville spokesman Mark Mazzaferro said.

The lockdowns were lifted at 11:54 a.m., according to the Vacaville Unified School District superintendent's office. No injuries were reported at the schools.

About 90 minutes after police responded to the home, a negotiator was able to get the man to come out and surrender. He was taken by police for a mental evaluation, Mazzaferro said.

His wife was unharmed in the incident.

The man had initially called a hospital and staff there called police to report the situation, Mazzaferro said.
