Drivers warned after accidents blamed on black ice

OAKLAND, Calif.

Black ice on Claremont Avenue caused a series of accidents as drivers maneuvering the winding street hit black ice and lost control of their cars.

"They're going 25 miles per hour down the road as they see the ice, and they hit the brakes and they lose control of their vehicles, and cars are spinning out," witness Burcham said.

A total of seven cars were damaged in separate accidents. Nobody was hurt.

Officers from Oakland and Berkeley helped warn drivers of the black ice and later used shovels to clear some of the ice from the road.
