Hundreds of people reported seeing the fireball, from the Bay Area to Reno, at 5:21 last Thursday morning. A scientist at the SETI Institute in Mountain View says it was a comet, about three feet long, that entered the earth's atmosphere just north of Yosemite. It burned up over Lake Tahoe, turning into dust and gas.
