San Francisco welcomes housing project for vets

SAN FRANCISCO

Veterans Commons is a facility that will house 75 veterans who are disabled by mental illness, chronic substance abuse, HIV, and post-traumatic stress disorders.

Veterans Commons has already been a life-changer.

"This place is not only my home, it's a community here, there are people working here in this building that will help you with anything, if you're a vet and a resident here, and you need help, we have a staff to go to, problem solvers, I'm telling you," resident Victor Fleming said.

The South of Market facility opened in November, spearheaded by the veteran's service group, Swords to Plowshares, and the Chinatown Community Development Center.
