Dramatic spike in San Jose property crime

Over the past years, San Jose has seen a dramatic spike in crimes like burglaries and car thefts.

Our media partner, the San Jose Mercury News, looked at the city's stats for 2012 compared to 2011.

28,000 property crimes were reported in 2012. That's a nearly 30 percent increase over 2011, and the highest figure since 1995.

It generally reflects a statewide trend toward more property crimes.

San Jose ranks fifth among America's safest large cities.
