The event will be held at City Hall at 65 Civic Avenue from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lt. Ron Raman said.
Police ask that the guns be brought unloaded and stay in vehicles' trunks.
Police will pay $50 for inoperable firearms, $200 for semiautomatic guns, shotguns, revolvers and rifles and $300 per assault weapon, Raman said.
Officers will verify that gun donors are residents of either Pittsburg or Bay Point.
However, police will not check to see if the donors have outstanding warrants and the process will remain anonymous, Raman said.
The event follows other successful gun buybacks throughout the Bay Area in recent months as part of an effort to cut down on gun violence.
"We want to take guns out of the hands of any person that would be involved in a violent incident, and we want to make sure firearms aren't laying around where an innocent child could pick it up," Raman said.
A 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were shot and killed in separate incidents in Pittsburg in January and another teen was injured. In February, a fleeing suspect shot and wounded a Pittsburg police officer.
