Record number of competitors participate in Oakland Running Festival

OAKLAND, Calif.

About 9,100 competitors joined the 5K, the half and full marathon, and the four-person team relay.

Organizers say they were happy to see double the number of 5K runners, as compared to last year. They say 5K runners are usually new to the sport, so it shows an increase in interest in the race.

The marathon's women's winner set a course record. Devon Yanko of San Anselmo finished in two hours, 47 minutes, and 24 seconds.

The men's winner is from Berkeley. Shinji Nakadai finished in two hours, 37 minutes, and 29 seconds.
