The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department has arrested an inmate who walked away from the Marsh Creek Detention Facility overnight.

At about 3:30 a.m., deputies discovered 21-year-old Kohlton Kumnick of Danville missing during a count. A search of the facility and the surrounding areas was conducted. Residents in the immediate area were notified through the telephone emergency notification system and local law enforcement agencies were also informed.

Just before 10 a.m., a resident of Clayton spotted Kumnick near Rialto Drive, about three miles away and notified authorities. Kumnick was captured after a brief search.

Kumnick was originally sentenced on a burglary charge and was serving 90 days. He has now been taken to the Martinez Detention Facility and booked on an additional charge of escape.
