11-year-old Aaron Hern has 2nd surgery after Boston bombings

MARTINEZ, Calif.

Family friends Sandra and Frank Hall tell the Contra Costa Times that Aaron Hern had a breathing tube removed and was doing well after a second surgery Wednesday.

Aaron's mother, Katherine, wrote in an online update that doctors are closely monitoring the boy for infections and are concerned about proper blood flow in repaired muscle tissue in his leg.

He remains in intensive care at Children's Hospital in Boston.

The bombs exploded Monday as Aaron and a group of family and friends from Martinez waited near the finish line to cheer on Katherine, as she finished the race.
