Residents in SF's Noe Valley allowed back after evacuation

SAN FRANCISCO

Around 12:40 p.m., police were notified about a suspicious person in the 4100 block of Cesar Chavez Street, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

Arriving officers found a man in the carport area of a residential building and detained him.

Officials tell ABC7 News the suspect made threatening statements by claiming to have explosives, which prompted them to evacuate nearby homes and to call in the bomb squad and hazardous materials team to the area.

Homes on the dead-end street were evacuated around 1:45 p.m. and the intersection of Castro and Cesar Chavez streets was blocked off to pedestrians and motorists, Shyy said.

Officials say no explosive devices were found. They determined the scene to be safe around 4:30 p.m. and allowed residents to return home.

No injuries have been reported, Shyy said.
