The California Department of Public Health says three Bay Area hospitals are facing fines for not following numerous medical procedures.

In San Francisco, the California Pacific Medical Center will have to pay a $100,000 fine after a patient had to undergo a second surgery to remove a foreign object. The hospital says it already took actions to prevent it from happening again.

Officials say St. Luke's Campus hospital in San Francisco must also pay a $50,000 penalty for a similar surgical error.

And, Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae is facing a $75,000 penalty for an error involving medication.
