Study: Cognitive health linked to childhood IQ

Staying sharp into your golden years may have less to do with how well you take care of your brain and more about how smart you were as a child.

A new study published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry found that children with high IQs ended up with better cognitive abilities when they reached their 70s.

Researchers say the study is important because it appears trying to stave off dementia through brain exercises may not work and that people who fare better cognitively in old age may have simply been smarter throughout their lives.
