Strobridge Elementary School holds toy gun exchange

An elementary school sponsored a different kind of gun exchange program in Hayward on Saturday.

Students filled storage bins with a variety of toy guns.

They each received a book and a raffle ticket for a chance to win a bicycle.

The principal of Strobridge Elementary School came up with the idea because he believes kids who play with toy guns might not take real ones seriously.

Police attended the event to teach students about gun safety.
