It happened at Third Street and La Salle Avenue in the Bayview District in San Francisco.
Police looked for evidence inside the KRON 4 news van. They say two armed men demanded the reporter's equipment. The reporter gave it to the men, then took cover.
The security guard working with the reporter fired shots at the robbers and one of the robbers was hit. Both robbers took off in a car.
A short time later, police say a man walked into San Francisco General Hospital with a gunshot wound.
Police have taped off the person's vehicle as evidence, although officers will not confirm the incidents are related.
