Truckers walk off job at Port of Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif.

A group calling itself the "Port of Oakland Truckers Association" walked off the job and hit the picket lines Monday morning.

Most of them are contract workers who aren't part of a union, but have formed the association to demand better working conditions and compensation.

"We want to be on the bargaining table. We want to have dialogue, but we want action to be done," said member Frank Adams.

Alameda County sheriff's deputies and police were called out to keep entrances to the port terminal clear to keep access for other truckers.

The port says they have convened a working group to address truckers' concerns.
