Annual menorah lighting takes place in SF's Union Square

SAN FRANCISCO

The annual menorah lighting in San Francisco's Union Square took place Thursday night.

The 25-foot tall mahogany menorah is part of a tradition started 39 years ago by rock and roll concert promoter Bill Graham.

A marketing manager in Massachusetts came up with a new mashup word for the day -- Thanksgivukkah.

Experts say based on the current Gregorian and Jewish calendars, Thanksgiving and the first day of Hanukkah won't fall on the same day again for thousands of years.
