UC Berkeley police arrest suspect in sexual assault of student

ALBANY, Calif.

Timothy Rodriguez, 40, who lives in the University Village in Albany, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possession of controlled substances, university police said.

The incident occurred on Jan. 25 when a female student met Rodriguez to have drinks at a bar near campus, police said. The two consumed alcoholic beverages and the victim then became intoxicated and ill, according to police.

Rodriguez allegedly took her to his residence at the University Village, where the alleged assault took place, police said.

The victim told police that at the bar, she had briefly left her drink unattended. Police are reminding people not to leave drinks unattended, or accept drinks from anyone they do not know well.

University police are asking anyone who may have been the victim of a similar crime to call police at (510) 664-9667.
