You may remember, the government sequester caused Fleet Week and the Blue Angels show to be cancelled last year. The pilots say they were able to practice to stay sharp.
Fleet week will be a homecoming for Lcdr. Michael Cheng, who dreamt of being a Blue Angel after seeing them practice as a child. He said, "The principal is like, 'Well, you guys aren't getting any of your school work done, so let's go up to the roof for lunch and just watch practice'. And that was the first time I ever saw the team and I remember thinking to myself that's got to be one heck of a job, that's really cool."
The Blue Angels say they were honored by last year's fundraising effort to keep their performance from being cancelled -- even though it failed. Fleet Week will take place this year on the second weekend of October.
