The recipient is the Edgewood Center for Children and Families. Levi Strauss historian Lynn Downey says it's a charity with a long history.
"In 1854, a year after Levi Strauss arrived in San Francisco, he gave his first known donation to a local charity, he gave $5 to the San Francisco Orphan Asylum," Downey said. "Today that institution is still with us and it is the Edgewood Center for Children and Families."
Edgewood received a $15,000 grant.
Levi's plans to give a grant every year to a charity or cause that was important to the company's founder.
