San Jose Sharks beef up arena security

San Jose Sharks fans can expect tighter security at home games starting Tuesday night.

Fans entering the SAP Center will need to pass through metal detectors and undergo electronic wand screening and pat-down searches.

Only small purses and baby bags will be permitted and they will also be searched. Fans are encouraged to arrive about 15 minutes earlier than normal.

The measures are nothing new. Each year, the NHL requires increased security during the final weeks of the season, as attendance increases.
