Groundbreaking takes place on new wetland restoration project

RICHMOND, Calif.

Rep. George Miller, D-Martinez, helped dedicate a wetlands restoration project at Breuner Marsh in the Point Pinole Regional Shoreline.

A grant from the Environmental Protection Agency will help improve 164 acres of open space for plants and animals. It's one of five projects aimed at improving the health of San Francisco Bay.

"These are the buffers that we create to help clean up the bay, to purify the water, to make a safe place for birds to nest and for other animals to nest and it makes it more of an exciting environment," said Miller.

The EPA is spending about $5 million around the Bay Area. The projects stretch from Napa to the South Bay.
