An elementary school in East Oakland was briefly locked down after a shooting occurred nearby this morning, a school district spokesman said.

Around 9:30 a.m., Futures Elementary School at the Lockwood campus, located at 6701 International Blvd., went on lockdown after police responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of 65th Avenue, according to Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint.

Gunfire was audible at the school, but the shooting did not directly affect the elementary school, according to Flint.

The lockdown was lifted around 10 a.m., he said.

Oakland police spokesman Officer Frank Bonifacio said a male victim was taken to a hospital around 9:30 a.m. after he was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Bonifacio did not immediately have an update on his condition.

According to Flint, the victim was in his car when he was hit multiple times in a drive-by shooting.

Police did not immediately have any suspect information in the shooting.
