SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Bay Area LIFE's Aubrey Aquino gives an up close look at Disney Animation's newest movie, "Moana." Then, she takes us to the beautiful island of Maui and all that it has to offer.

Disney Animation's Moana made its way into theaters Thanksgiving weekend. It's a musical animated adventure tale of sailors navigating the Pacific to discover the many islands of Oceania. We hear from the film's stars Dwayne Johnson (Maui) and Ali'i Cravalho(Moana) who talk about how their own backgrounds, which helped them relate and bring their animated to characters to life.
Moana's directors and producer also give us a sneak peek into this story about a young girl's quest for her own identity. We also explore the music of Moana with Lin-Manuel Miranda and take a look behind the scenes with the composers and artists who bring Moana's music to life.
Then, we go on our own tropical adventures to the island of Maui, which is also known as "The Valley Isle." We share views from the sunrise at Haleakala to snorkeling at Molokini. We also taste the local fare and get a true taste of the island. From Maui Gold pineapples to standing among the kalo plants, we speak to Maui chefs who inject pride, passion and culture into the cuisine they create. Maui is an island brimming with Aloha, with a deep respect for all.
