Thursday's protests in Oakland still left their mark on several businesses, like Calavera On Broadway, which had its front doors and windows shattered.

Oakland's Auto Row was also hard hit as windows were smashed at the Mercedes and Audi dealerships, where bricks were the weapon of choice.

Mayor Libby Schaaf says her police department is doing what they can to prevent the vandalism without increasing tensions.
"It is so infuriating that a small group of cowardly vandals are using peaceful protests to shield their acts of destruction," she said.

"You cannot blame the people who called the action, for things that happen after the action," said protest organizer Cat Brooks. Her group plans to move away from demonstrations like these in the coming days.
"Our energy now is funneling people's passion into more strategic, targeted organizing and planning a town hall," said Brooks.
