Candlelight vigil held in Fremont to honor San Bernardino shooting victims

FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- The Fremont community held a candlelight vigil Sunday to stand in solidarity with the victims who died in the San Bernardino shooting.

Dozens of people gathered for the vigil at Niles Town Plaza. Some said the tragic event that took place in San Bernardino shocked them all, so they attended the vigil to condemn all acts of violence and to remember the 14 people who lost their lives.

Some residents applauded President Obama's speech, especially the part where he talked about enlisting the Muslim community as some of our strongest allies rather than pushing them away. "So this is really about peace, about community, getting together, getting our own circles together, praying for peace and praying to make sure we stand strong together as a community and do not fragment because it's all about fragmentation that's kind of going on," Fremont resident Raj Munaim said.

"People know that this is a really small stand, taking a moment to pause and reflect on what's happened, that's not going to lead to action. So this is both a call for prayer, a call for peace and more importantly a call for action," Fremont Resident Anu Natarajan said.

Fremont residents said they hope this will lead to more dialogue and more events calling for change.
