Oklahoma farmer mows thank you to Air Force in grass

ARCADIA, Okla. (KGO) -- An Oklahoma farmer has found a way to thank the men and women of the Air Force, and they can only see it while they're working.

Vernon and Susan Graff's farm is underneath the flight path leading to Tinker Air Force Base near Oklahoma City.

Airmen can see the farm when they fly to and from the base.

Vernon, a former National Guard helicopter crew chief, has mowed a special message in his grass -- it says, "Freedom, thank you."

"I think it strikes a chord with them because they are putting their life on the line for us and for our freedoms," Susan said.

"I plan on keeping it, keep on mowing it," Vernon said.

Vernon said he got the idea when a crew from the base stopped by his farm to ask what he's growing in his Oklahoma-shaped garden.
