SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KGO) -- A car burglary nearly ruined a Santa Rosa teen's dream of a perfect prom.

Luckily, the sheriff's office stepped up to save the day.

A thief broke into Julisa Sanchez's car and stole her purse.

It contained all the money the high school senior had saved to buy a prom dress.

Deputies tracked down the burglar, but the money was gone so the Sonoma County Deputy Sheriffs' Association passed the hat and raised enough to send Julisa to the prom.

The suspect deputies caught was booked on seven counts of auto burglary, possession of stolen property and ID theft.
