A man in an old-school Barry Bonds Pittsburgh Pirates jersey could have cost his team in a close game when he interfered with Gregory Polanco on Monday night in San Francisco.

In the eighth inning, with the Pirates leading the San Francisco Giants 4-3, Buster Posey sent a ball into right field. The fan leaned over the low fence at the wall, and both he and Polanco reached for the shot -- but neither came up with it.

"He hit me all over," Polanco said, gesturing to his hand and the left side of his face. "He said, 'I'm very sorry.' I said, 'It's OK, man.' He's trying to catch the ball, too. He wants the ball. It was strange. He was right there, and I didn't see him before."

Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle requested a replay review, and after 2 minutes, 17 seconds, Polanco was credited with the putout. The 4-3 score held for a Pirates win.

The fan was removed from the stands.

"How about the irony that the game has and the guy had a Pirate jersey on. I don't know if he thought he could make the catch and hand it to Gregory or maybe help Gregory," Hurdle said. "It was the right call. ... There's some depth to that guy out there."
