SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- About 800 PG&E customers off Fleming Avenue in East San Jose were without power for a while Thursday evening. The power outage was caused by a downed power line that fell due to the wind earlier in the evening and caused a small fire.
Many people were trying to prepare a Christmas Eve dinner and they had to make do in the dark.
PG&E spokesperson Angel Ortiz said they are ready for weather-related incidents. Ortiz explained, "We have crews on standby so if anything happens, we will be able to respond 24/7. These crews were here in 15 minutes."
Still, that didn't help the Campbell Family's annual Christmas Eve dinner party. Maria Campbell said, "The turkey is ready, the ham is ready, but no pork for the Puerto Ricans today, because we have no power."
They had to hold their party by candlelight, glow stick, and anything else they could find.
"We have candied yams in the oven. I don't know if that's going to ever come to fruition," Campbell said.
Some people, relying on electric heaters, were forced to bundle up in the chilly temperatures.
