Funeral plans underway for 16-year-old killed by tree branch

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Funeral plans are being made for 16-year-old Jack Lewis. He was an Oakland Tech junior who was hit in the head by a tree branch and died late last week.

Lewis and some friends were celebrating a birthday Friday at Lake Merritt, near Fairyland.

The heavy branch snapped after Lewis jumped and grabbed hold of it.

Oakland Tech has counselors on campus this week to help students cope with the tragedy.
